I did some research on Amazon and Consumer Reports before purchasing the LG BD 570 and was feeling pretty confident that I was purchasing a reliable machine. Unfortunately, my experience with this blu ray player couldn’t have been worse. The machine froze up multiple times, the remote control was unresponsive and the internet connection was repeatedly dropped. It’s going back in the box. Going to try a Panasonic. Maybe I just got a lemon, but you can be assured that I will never purchase a LG product again.

While the output of this player (audio and video) was fine, my biggest concern was the lightweight construction. The DVD transport seemed pretty frail to me. While DVD players shouldn’t be getting any undue physical abuse, I’m not sure how long the transport will last with regular use. I don’t like replacing components every couple of years, so I’m holding out for a better constructed unit.

The setup was really easy w/ Netflix; have yet to watch a BluRay movie though! Been very happy thus far.

This was my first Blu-ray player purchase, and I wish it had worked out well. My issue was that anything played over HDMI from this player (Blu-ray, Netflix, DVD) gets audio distortion after it’s been playing a while (anywhere from 20 to 40 mins). I tried multiple programs through Netflix, Defiance and New Moon Blu-rays, and The Hurt Locker on DVD that all had the same issue. Curiously enough The Dark Knight played fine, but 1 out of 3 Blu-rays playing correctly isn’t going to cut it.
I think I went above and beyond as a consumer to try to fix the issue. Keep in mind I’m no Blu-ray or audio home theatre expert, but I think I covered all the bases. I made sure the player’s firmware was up to date. I swapped out the HDMI cable, same issue. I went through all the audio and some of the display options one by one without any luck. I changed audio settings on my TV (a 1080p Vizio bought hardly a month ago), no dice. I hooked the player up to a significantly older 720p Vizio which seemed to work fine, weirdly enough, but I didn’t buy it to work with that TV. Also, it worked with the RCA cables (oh boy!). I hooked up a PS3 to the TV and the audio played flawlessly through an entire Blu-ray movie (one of the ones the LG had issues with), confirming my belief that the issue is not the HDMI cable or the TV. Thinking I had a bad unit, I returned it to Best Buy and exchanged it for another LG BD570 only to experience issue deja-vu. As a last ditch effort, I called LG customer support who, over the course of two different calls, had me fiddle some settings and then declared that they had no idea what the issue was and that I would need to send the unit in for service…right. So the LG BD570 is going to be returned again, and I’ll go with a Sony instead.
However, aside from the unsolvable audio issues, I enjoyed everything else about the player. It’s just too bad I like to hear my movies too.

I purchased this unit to replace an aging Panasonic Blu-Ray and a dead Apple TV. I’m very impressed with the video quality when playing disks, Vudu, and even Netflix. Video quality is awesome! The remote control is simple and works really well. The Home Link limitations are vast. In fact, I’ve found it to be nearly unusable by a typical person (my wife, my 21 y/o son, etc) – setup requires computer skills – especially if one is running Windows 7. Even after its set up, the DLNA server is what really gives this client some life. So, one must be acquainted with that software or hardware. Even after experimenting with multiple DLNA servers (including Nero MediaHome and Wild Media Server), the DLNA client is primitive at best. I’ve decided to put my old Panasonic Blu-Ray in my bedroom and purchase a replacement Apple TV. If I need to play digital content that is on my computer, I’ll just add it to my iTunes library and play it through my Apple TV or put it on a USB drive, plug it in and play it.
